Day 4:   (Page 1 of 4)

This morning began as any other day but it didn't stay that way for very long. We finished painting one trailer, continued to rehab "Big Blue" and then starting demolishing a trailer with a group of Methodist missionaries from outside Reno, Nevada, while another group planted the memorial garden at the church.

We had our first accident of the trip. Toni was removing a window in the demo trailer and cut his finger and needed medical treatment from Minister Mike, (he doesn't agree but we all know the truth) Fortunately it wasn't a serious accident and he is okay. His mother will need to buy him mittens from now on.

Last night, Mike and his crew who included Ginny, Chrissy, Caity, Lizzie, and Jackie went on a three hour tour off island to Lowe's to purchase the flowers for the memorial garden here at St. John's. Caitie harassed the management into providing proper plant selection info to the novice gardners. It was quite a spectacle to see the group loading 3 flatbed carts of flowers into a minivan with 6 people. When the feat was accomplished they received a standing ovation from the assembled onlookers. In the morning, the gardeners designed and planted the garden in preperation for Aunt June's Interment on Thursday. Remember Aunt June? ( see previous days).

After lunch of delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and salads, (for Ginny), we split into 3 groups with 1 group going back to Big Blue and the other group going to a new site. Team Sanford, Son and Daughter consisting of Mike, Eric, and Aubrey, hired for their muscles not their looks at least in Mike's case, moved stoves, washers, dryers, couches, etc from donated sites to mobile homes up and down the entire island, 15 miles never seemed so long, while dodging rain drops. The Big Blue group, Father Dave, Jay, Dave, Andy, and Dana got rained out and could only do some minor repairson the interior ceiling as the major work required electric and momma taught us not to run electric lines in pools of water while standing in metal buildings (see, we're taking care of your kids). Meanwhile at the other end of the island, in the torrential downpours with no lightning, after the horses and goats took cover, literally, a determined (stupid?) group of missionaries put up tyvek siding and repaired a fence. The drenched missionaries returned to the church looking like drowned rats (apparently their mommas didn't teach them to come in from the rain). Ginny continued to squish all night and into the morning on her fully inflated air mattress while Father Dave slowly sank to the floor yet again. It goes to prove that Ginny took medicine and Dave didn't.

Continuing in the cheese theme of the day, we dined on Macaroni and cheese and hot dogs. After which we had circle time of sharing which was powerful for everyone involved. It once again led by our favorite minister, Mike. Do we see a pattern yet?

Trinity Ambler please beware --- Father Dave is learning a second language, by the time we return he will be fluent in Manatee and promises to preach in manatee on July 3rd. Come one come all but bring your jammies because you might be seeing the fireworks from your pew on the fourth.
