DAY 4 - 7.2.04
Today we traveled to the Brother Francis Shelter, which is another homeless shelter near downtown
Anchorage. We had a different experience here for the clients were all over 18 years of age.
We sorted clothes for most of the day, separating pants, socks, shirts, sweaters, shoes and
other clothing articles for easier distribution. Also, a small team of us headed by Ginny and Dave took on
the gigantic task of cleaning out a freezer that had stopped working. Because of this, an estimated
400 pounds of spoiled turkey, salmon, ham, sour cream, and numerous other food items had to be
thrown away. Besides discarding the food, some of us scrubbed out the shelves of the freezer
to complete the job. After our work, we went to the Alaska Zoo. The pictures shown are only
a sample of how many animals we saw that are indigenous to the area.
We get to play today!! Off to the Portage Glacier National Park, where we will take a boat
tour of the area. Great pictures will surely come from this event. More trip details hopefully
to come over the weekend if we can find a connection to use. Miss you all at home!
PS - there must have been a huge mistake yesterday - Fr. Dave insists he DIDN'T cheat - he's right : - (
