DAY 3 - 7.1.04

We continued our work at Covenant House today. Throughout the day, our group was tasked with many different jobs. Some of those included painting bathrooms, cleaning walk-in fridges, sorted through games and puzzles, repaired chairs in the lounge, cleaned and sanitized kitchen, cleaned the sidewalks, sorted clothes in the storage area, pulled weeds, washed vans, put together books for mentors, and assisted in filing paperwork for the nursing staff. At lunchtime, we visited the "central park" in the city, which was right beside city hall. We were able take great group pictures on the fountain, and were surrounded by a virtual color explosion of flowers. In picture 35, you see the EVIL machine that kept taking our $5 bills. After our work was completed, we enjoyed a presentation of the 40th anniversary of the 9.6 magnitude Good Friday Alaskan Earthquake, and also an IMAX presentation called "The Great Land," which portrayed the beautiful countryside and wildlife of Alaska. We then boostered the Alaskan Economy by purchasing an exorbitant amount of merchandise. We went back to the church and had taco salad for dinner, followed by many games of cards. And yes, Fr. Dave won the final four.....by cheating. More pictures to come as soon as Mike learns to use his camera. We miss you all, but the weather here is much better here, so we may stay for an extra month. Or at least until Dave can win a game of Hearts without cheating!

See you all soon!
